BookScouter helps you turn your used books and textbooks into cash.
Do you need to declutter?
Are you done with some of your old textbooks, and you want to share the knowledge?
You can make extra money by doing both!
Textbooks are expensive to buy, and when you sell them back to the bookstore at school, you usually only get pennies on the dollar. Selling them online to vendors that are searching for these specific books usually means a higher payout than what you’ll find elsewhere.
How BookScouter Works
Several companies buy used books from people just like you, but without services like BookScouter you need to figure out who the companies are, and understand that what they are willing to pay varies depending on where you look. If you don’t check all the sources, you might be leaving money on the table!
BookScouter works by searching over 40 book vendors for your particular books, so you can easily identify companies that want to buy your books, compare the prices offered, and even check out other people’s feedback about the experience they had with each vendor.
All you need to do is enter the book’s ISBN (International Standard Book Number), and BookScouter will return results in an instant.
You then simply choose the vendor you want to sell to, complete your transaction, use the free shipping label, ship your book, and wait to get paid!
The Type of Books BookScouter Helps You Sell
BookScouter primarily helps you sell textbooks. You can try other types, but you will have more success, and get more money back, with textbooks.
These textbooks must have an ISBN in order for BookScouter to perform searches.
Your books should also be in good condition. Though each vendor has their own requirements about books they will accept, the price they offer to you will generally be higher for books that are in good condition.
BookScouter does not accept books that are antique, rare, or without an ISBN.
Here’s a BookScouter search results page for an accounting text book that I found online (click the image to view larger in a new tab).
The box on the top right shows the vendor with the top result. It appears that the top result is based on a combination of what the vendor is willing to pay, along with their rating.
Once you’ve selected your vendor, you will be routed to the vendor’s website to complete the transaction.
Does BookScouter Charge a Fee?
Your only cost may be the price of the package that you use to send the books.
There are no fees to use the site, and you are paid for your textbooks depending on which seller is buying and how much they are offering.
Once you have chosen an offer that you like, the company will send you a shipping label, so postage is at no cost to you. You package your book and attach the shipping label, then drop it in the mail and await your payment.
Vendor Ratings and Payment Speed
BookScouter users have the opportunity to give a rating to vendors. This works to your advantage because you can choose a vendor based not only on how much they are willing to pay you, but also on if other users have had successful transactions with them.
How quickly you’ll be paid varies, but it is typically within 1-3 days after the buyer receives your book(s).
The payment method you choose also determines how fast you’ll receive your money. Most companies give you the option of PayPal or a check. If you use PayPal then the payment is faster than if you choose to have a check issued.
Some companies also have a vendor speed rating to give you an idea of how quickly they pay.
Don’t let your old textbooks sit around collecting dust. Let BookScouter help you sell them for extra money!
