You can find work from home jobs by looking in many of the same places that you would to find brick and mortar employment. Most of the major job sites have listings for home jobs that you can find with a basic search.
Keep in mind that some positions may require residency in certain states, periodic travel, or onsite training, so review each job posting carefully before you apply.
How to Find Work From Home Jobs
These are just a few options for searching for job listings to save you a little time.
Real Home Jobs Now job leads
I source job leads from around the web to help you with your search.
Indeed
Indeed is one of the major job boards, and it’s also a helpful resource for company reviews. You can find US-based and international work with Indeed.
CareerBuilder
CareerBuilder is another major job search board that has been connecting job seekers and employers for over 20 years. Find international job listings in Canada, the UK, France, and more.
Monster
Monster is another veteran job board solution with global reach. Search jobs the the US, the UK, Canada and more.
Craigslist
Though you will spend more time wading through scams on Craigslist, there are legitimate home jobs listed.
FlexJobs
FlexJobs features remote, flexible jobs, including professional-level opportunities. If you want to spend less time on the search and more time applying for jobs that have already been screened, give FlexJobs a try. The service is about $15 a month, but your satisfaction is guaranteed and you can cancel at any time.
Social Media
I’ve seen some great resources on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. On Facebook, join groups dedicated to working from home or general employment. Be mindful of the groups you join though, since some don’t post legitimate opportunities.
Look for resources in your city, county, or state government that may have employment pages and groups on Facebook. If you can find these, you may get a wealth of information and a community of people sharing job information, possibly including work from home jobs.
While you’re on Facebook, follow my page for real-time announcements and other helpful information!
For Pinterest and Twitter, use the search terms below to help you find work from home jobs. Don’t forget to hashtag them for Twitter.
How To Search
When you are trying to find work at home jobs on any site, the search terms you use will affect the quality of your results.
Try these:
- work from home
- working from home
- work at home
- working at home
- remote
- working remotely
- virtual
- telecommute
- telecommuting
- home based
- at home
- from home
- home office
- work from anywhere
Any of these should retrieve work at home positions if they are available.
Combine search terms if you’re looking for a specific type of job. For example, if you are looking for a customer service job, you might try “work from home customer service” to help filter your results.
You can also try using location search terms like “United States” (if applicable) or “nationwide” to potentially find work from home jobs that can be performed from any location.
When you are looking to find online jobs directly from an employer’s website, check to see if there is a work from home or remote option already available in the predetermined filters, like this:
Some companies make it easy to find work from home jobs so check first before you start entering search terms (that pic is from the Neiman Marcus job site by the way 😉 ).
Time Savers to Find Work From Home Jobs
Let the jobs come to you!
1. Take advantage of job alerts when they are offered. Most of the major job sites and some employer sites allow you to create a job alert or a search agent that will email you when jobs matching your criteria are posted. On the job boards you can even choose email alerts to notify you when specific companies are hiring.
2. If offered, you can also subscribe to RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds to receive content based on your criteria.
3. In addition to the major job boards, use work from home communities and forums to help with your search. Not only will you find job leads in work from home forums, but they are some of the best sources for insider information.
You can review discussions about specific jobs and companies, and get honest feedback from other workfromhomers who have direct experience. WAHM.com is a great forum to start with, and it has an active telecommuting thread.
Alternatives
If you are also performing searches to find local employment, you might consider asking potential employers if they would be willing to allow a work from home arrangement. Of course this will depend on the type of work you are looking for.
But if the position you want lends itself to home based work it may not hurt to ask. Even if the company denies it initially, it may be a topic to revisit after you secure the position.
I’d love to know what search techniques you use and how your job search is going. What tips do you use to find work from home jobs?
